I was the first person in my maternal family to attend a 4-year university, so I relied heavily on my friends and school counselor to assist me with the college application, financial aid, and scholarship processes. I knew that I wanted to attend college, so I was determined to research and prepare by any means. When I enrolled, I was met with a large campus and large class sizes, so I became overwhelmed. I was determined to find ways to make campus smaller, so I began getting involved and utilizing on-campus resources and support services. By doing so, I felt much more included, engaged, and successful. To all prospective first gen students, ask questions and get involved. You are not alone!
