Lorenzo Hopper

I am a proud first-generation college graduate born in Greenville, SC and raised in Shelby, NC. I wrote in my dissertation acknowledgments how thankful I was for the mentors who gave me advice while applying to college and the local community college for hosting a free FAFSA day. My mother and I had no clue how to fill out that federal student aid form. Stepping onto the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill was terrifying yet life-changing. I’ve continued to strive to create a blueprint that my future family and mentees can use to help them navigate their academic journeys. To all of the 1st generation Niners, come find me and say hello! I am in CHHS 428D. I value education and today I am committed to inspiring, supporting, and mentoring young students who have some of the same challenges as they attempt to pursue higher education.
