When I attended college, I honestly did not understand the significance of being a First-Generation student. I was so fortunate to be part of a family that supported my education and were so proud of me. Looking back, I did feel at times that there was so much to figure out and not very many to help me (I went to undergrad back in the late 1990s). I was also fortunate to attend graduate school, here at UNC Charlotte in the School of Social Work. So, I guess you could say I am a First Gen Student times two. :) 

I am very proud to be a First Gen Niner! To all of you out there, I see you. Hang in there and know you are changing your family legacy.
