Henny Haidiso
Being a First-Generation college student has been both challenging and motivating for me. My name is Henny Haidiso, and I am currently a junior at University of North Carolina at Charlotte majoring in Computer Science with a concentration in Software Engineering while also minoring in Biology. As a First-Generation student, I entered college without having family members who could guide me through the academic process, career planning, or balancing difficult coursework. Because of this, I had to learn how to navigate college on my own while adapting to new responsibilities and expectations.
My journey has taught me the importance of perseverance, discipline, and hard work. Balancing courses in both technology and science has pushed me to grow academically and personally. Even when classes became difficult, I stayed motivated because I know that my education can create opportunities not only for myself but also for my family and future generations.
What makes my story meaningful is the combination of my passions. I am deeply interested in both software engineering and medicine. After graduating from UNC Charlotte, I hope to attend medical school and pursue a career as a cardiologist. I want to use my background in computer science and biology to contribute to healthcare and improve patient outcomes through innovation and technology.
Being a First-Generation student means breaking barriers and creating a path where there was none before. Although the journey has not always been easy, it has made me more determined to succeed and inspire others who come from similar backgrounds.
