As a First-Generation college student, I entered college without a “map” for success but with a strong commitment to becoming a social worker. Navigating classes, financial aid, and practicum requirements strengthened my organizational and professional skills. These experiences deepened my understanding of the barriers First-Generation students face and how faculty and staff can support student success. I also learned how to balance multiple responsibilities, while caring for my own well-being. Today, my First-Generation experience continues to guide my commitment to supporting practicum students—helping them recognize their strengths, build confidence, and thrive in the field of social work.
